Text Message Terms

The short version

1. What this program is

Sunny is an app that helps a person whose memory or thinking has changed keep in touch with the people they love. When that person writes a note in Sunny to someone they have saved, Sunny delivers it as a text message from Sunny's phone number.

These texts are conversational and one-to-one. Every one of them was written by a person, to you, on purpose. Sunny does not write them, and no one at ByteWise writes them.

2. Why you are getting a text from a number you don't know

Someone saved you as one of the people they want to stay close to. The first text you receive from Sunny says who is writing, so you are never left guessing, and every text after that begins with their name.

If you were not expecting it, or you do not want these texts, reply STOP and they will end.

What the first text looks like

This is the exact wording, with the writer's first name in place of "Karen". It is the same every time someone new is written to. Beside it is the screen the writer taps in the app.

The first message names the writer and the Sunny app and carries the STOP and HELP instructions. Every later message begins with the writer's name and "(via Sunny)". Replies go straight back to the writer.
The screen the writer taps in the Sunny app. One note, one person they chose, one Send button. There is no way to send to more than one person at a time.
The Sunny app's Add a person screen. Below the name and phone number is an unticked checkbox reading: Maria has agreed to receive text messages from Karen through Sunny. Message and data rates may apply. They can reply STOP at any time to stop. Under it: Tick the box above to save this person with a phone number. The Save button is greyed out.
How consent is recorded, before any text can be sent. When a phone number is entered, this box appears unticked. Saving is blocked until it is ticked, the date it was ticked is stored with the person, and no text can go to a number that has no ticked box. Names shown are examples.

3. How often

Only when the person writes to you. There is no schedule and no automatic sending. Most days there are none; on a busy day there may be a few. Sunny never sends recurring or scheduled messages to you.

4. Stopping, and getting help

To stop: reply STOP to any message. You will get one confirmation that it worked, and then nothing further. You can start again later by replying START.

For help: reply HELP, or email us at care@bytewise.ai. A person answers.

Stopping the texts does not affect the person who wrote to you: they keep their Sunny, and their note is still saved there. It only means the note stops arriving on your phone.

5. Costs

Message and data rates may apply. Sunny does not charge you anything for these texts. Whatever your mobile plan charges for receiving or sending a text is between you and your carrier.

6. If you use the Sunny app: your plan and the free trial

This part is for the person who pays for Sunny, not for someone who only receives a text. Sunny is a subscription bought through Google Play. Every plan starts with a free week, and Google Play asks for a payment method up front.

Sunny Solo: 7 days free, then $9.99 a month (or $99 a year) automatically. Cancel any time in Google Play before day 7.

The Family plan: 7 days free, then $29.99 a month (or $299 a year) automatically. Cancel any time in Google Play before day 7.

Cancel later, and Sunny keeps working until the end of the period you paid for. Google Play shows the final price before you pay, emails you a receipt, and is where you change or cancel the plan: open Google Play, then Subscriptions. Two taps, no questions asked. Cancelling never erases anything.

7. Delivery

Carriers are not liable for any delayed or undelivered messages. Text messages travel over mobile networks that we do not control, so we cannot promise that every message arrives, or that it arrives quickly.

For the same reason, Sunny is not an emergency service, and text messages must never be relied on in an emergency. In an emergency, call 911.

8. Your information

To carry a note to you we need your phone number, which the person using Sunny saved, the words they wrote, and your reply if you send one. What we do with that, and what we never do with it, is set out in full in our Privacy Notice.

The short of it: we do not share your mobile information with third parties or affiliates for their marketing purposes, we do not sell anything that identifies you, and we do not add you to any list.
